Hemmingway's Farewell and a Wine Tasting Lunch

We're off to the town of Kobarid to tour its museum, which focuses on World War I. Kobarid was the site of the 1917 Battle of Caporetto, the aftermath of which was described in Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. The museum was interesting and well done.

Boris Lisjak Winery hosted us for a delicious cold-cuts lunch with tastings of three wines. They were all excellent with the third being a dessert wine. As we drive into Croatia, the bus was definitely quiet. We're heading to Motovun, our hillside town location for the next two nights.

Motovun Village requires a hike up the steep traffic-free cobblestone hill to Kastel Hotel. This is where packing light pays off as we must sherpa our own gear. After checking into our rooms, many head out to explore the little village in waning light and find some dinner.
Main square in Motovun with the late Renaissance church of St. Stephen in the Palladian style.
Wow! Pasta covered with truffle. But, they didn't taste quite like truffle. Hmmmm. Not sure if they were black or white. We sat outside with beautiful views of the valley.
This is Croatia, not Tuscany!
